THIS WEEK ON A SMALL VOICE PODCAST...

My guest this week on the podcast is British documentary photographer Polly Braden, who talks about her projects Leaving Ukraine, and Holding The Baby, working with film, working in China, securing funding, building partnerships and why artists need to be entrepreneurs.

Full bio and show notes for the episode here.

ALSO THIS WEEK...

Congratulations to...

Photographer and friend of the podcast, Alys Tomlinson whose directorial debut documentary feature film Mother Vera, co-directed with her friend Cecile Embleton, just won the prestigious Grierson Documentary Award 2024 at the London Film Festival. I've been following the five year journey of this ambitious project with Alys on the podcast from its inception, doing little annual check-ins with her on how the whole rollercoaster experience is going, mainly on the Photo London specials. What a glorious and inspiring thing to be writing this news. Instagram posthere.

Back from BoP:

I'm back from a tiring but enjoyable weekend at the annual BoP Bookfair at the Martin Parr Foundation and the Royal Photographic Society in Bristol, which now forms part part of the Bristol Photo Festival. Sorry to say there willnotbe special podcast episode because I spent most of my time standing behind a table trying to sell photobooks - something that I tried for the first time last year with relative success. This year, not so much. I sold 7 books. One or two were quite valuable, but even so I think that concludes my misadventures in the book selling game. Which begs the question what am I gonna do now that I've run out of shelf space? Answers on a postcard... Next year I'll leave the books at home and come back with a podcast episode.
